Over many years I have had to confront my own tendency to live into the promises of God in terms of my own ability to perform them. A nasty habit that I hope none are you are in. In my book “The Genius in the Kingdom: How discipleship impacts church planting” I write:
“The natural state of our lives is ‘in Christ’. This is the state in which we are fully human and in which we become the new humanity. It is not by striving but by abiding (Jn15:4) and this is what delights the Father (Jn15:8). And here is the full circle – love prompts abiding – abiding prompts obedience – obedience prompts love! We are commanded to love (Jn15:12) and once again Jesus reminds us that this loving is done in the same manner as He has loved us! On one level our disciples will feel the impossibility of this but the key to the internal world of the disciple and the external world of that disciple’s mission in the world depends on our willingness to live into the possibilities of these things.”
Part of the movemental ecology is the way in which the disciples of Jesus lean into the possibilities confidently because they are know that Jesus has done the work to make those possibilities possible.
The book is now available on paperback and Kindle from Amazon.
