Creating teams that can produce multiplying churches is the great challenge. In my book “The Genius in the Kingdom: How Discipleship Impacts Church Planting” I write:
A calculated giftedness diversity in the team and in the relationships between the planting leader and team will have several important effects. First, it will keep the posture of the leader and team open (meaning they will not be only thinking about those who are like them but also helping one another to tune in to everyone around them). Second, it will keep the eyes of the team soft (meaning that will be able to recognise what needs to be seen in terms of those important moments that appear on the journey of planting) and thirdly, it will keep the spirit of the group as teachable which provides for the team a reliable source of what God is revealing of His intention for the new work in each season. This alignment helps both leader and team to steward the revelation they are receiving from the Lord.”
Any time we spend on the team will produce good results long term. At the risk of being. controversial, in modern planting, leadership is not the deal breaker – multiplying disciples is!
